Chapter 6 — How the Epstein Network is Privatizing Government, Building the Surveillance State ...and Bringing it to Market
a
Chris Hedges: The proliferation of data centers built to process immense amounts of data sets and train AI models has spawned widespread grassroots backlash by a diverse coalition of Americans across the country. The people behind these industrial behemoths and the legislative infrastructure that has laid the path to their development, however, are scarcely understood. In a recent article for Unlimited Hangout, Whitney Webb investigates the Silicon Heartland or the part of the Columbus metropolitan area that is being rapidly developed into a major hub for technological development, hosting big tech campuses, semiconductor production facilities, and massive data centers.Webb reveals that at the center of this technological development drive is Jeffrey Epstein's most prominent benefactor, Les Wexner, the billionaire founder of Bath and Body Works with ties to organized crime, who co-founded the Mega Group, a cohort of Jewish entrepreneurs, who once met twice a year to discuss where to target their philanthropic investments. Birthright Israel was one of the most prominent initiatives spun out of the group. Through a dizzying array of public private partnerships and alleged shell companies,
Wexner has gained control of key real estate that is now being utilized by military contracting big tech companies, enriching himself and the corporations he's lured to the silicon heartland along the way. But it is how Wexner has accumulated this leverage that illuminates the dark inner workings of our political system. These public private partnerships, Webb reveals, despite the benality of their name, function as a way for oligarchs to funnel taxpayer money into privately developed business projects. These agreements also ensh the money objectives and players of the private sector so deeply into the legislative process that they empower the private end of these partnerships to take defacto control of their government collaborators.
In doing so, these oligarchs facilitate a quasil legal corporatization of government.Inevitably, as data centers increasingly become a key component of the nation's surveillance infrastructure, other centers of power enter the mix as well with national security actors, defense executives, Israeli business interests, Vivvec Ramisami, Peter Teal, allies and vice president JD Vance lingering on the peripheries of the public private framework advancing this data center deluge. Joining me to discuss the legal infrastructure and networks behind some of our modern surveillance state is investigative journalist and author of one nation under blackmail, Whitney Webb.
So let's begin with Wexner, who he is and perhaps he has close ties to Epstein. You can speak about that as well.
Chapter 2: Who is Leslie Wexner?Whitney Webb: Sure. Thanks so much for having me back on, Chris. So yes, Leslie Wexner is probably best known for one of two things. either being the richest man in the state of Ohio or being the most well-known benefactor of Jeffrey Epstein, at least on paper. So Leslie Wexner created a large what is now a large conglomerate of companies now under the parent company LB Brands. But some of the best known companies that he has been behind are longtime staples of American malls. Bath and Body Works being one, Abracrombi and Fitch, the Limited, Limited 2, etc., etc. Some of my reporting on him in conjunction with Epstein has focused on things like his organized crime connections which were alleged by Columbus Local Police as they were investigating the death of one of his lawyers or one of the lawyers rather of the limited named Arthur Shapiro in the 1980s, who was deemed to have been murdered in what was referred to as a mob style hit back I believe, 1985 or so. Wexner and his close associate John Kesler were named as suspects and their ties to organized crime were detailed in a report that was heavily censored by the Columbus police chief at the time and ended up being revealed inadvertently through a Freedom of Information Act request by filed by local journalist Bob Fraus in the late 90s. [There is a record of [that and various organized crime connections that were alleged record.] that in in various organized crime colle connections that were alleged to you know, a record of that.Notably, Kesler is the person that created with Leslie Wexter the New Albany Company, a private company that has essentially taken control of what was once a very small suburb outside of Columbus, Ohio called New Albany ...and through a series of efforts to drastically alter not just local law but also state law, the New Albany Company was able to become the de facto local government of the town of New Albany by entering into a public private partnership with the local government of New Albany.
But in some of these law changes they lobbied for including at the state level allowed the new Albany company created by Wexner and Kesler to basic to do unprecedented things for a private company like tax local residents and issue bonds and all sorts of things that are normally meant to be the business of local governments. And Kesler for example has said that basically the new Albany local government in their partnership is extremely pro-development and adheres to a master plan that was developed by the new Albany company. So this is one of Wexner's other endeavors aside from his association with Jeffrey Epstein and longtime partnership there, and corporate his corporate behemoth Elbrands, that he runs that made him a billionaire. Uh but this is one of the other things that he has been developing for some time ... the town of New Albany is part of the broader Columbus region home to the vast majority of Ohio's data centers. So Ohio is currently, I believe, fourth in the United States for having the most data centers behind Virginia, Texas, and California, ... they have about 193 data centers currently, and 121 of those are in and around New Albany.
Chapter 3: What is the agenda behind the data centers? Chris Hedges: Your article shows that Wexner and various public private partnerships are serving as a key node in the development of this data center in Ohio, the Silicon Heartland. There's a much broader coalition of people and institutions that are driving the data center push, wrapping big tech, the U.S. government, elements of the military-industrial complex in the mix. What's the objective and why data centers?
(WW) In Ohio or in general?
(CH) Nationally. Nationally. Well, both, but because Ohio is kind of your case study, right?
(WW) Sure. So, um, obviously it's fair to say that the network behind the data center push is is extremely large and influential, obviously spearheaded by big tech companies that at this point have for all intents and purposes fused with the national security state. Um, and this has been ongoing for some time. 8:048 , 4 secondsSo, a good example is to look back at the 2018 National Security Commission on AI on AI that was chaired by Eric 8:148 , 14 secondsSchmidt, the former Google CEO and a close associate of Schmidt who had previously held a top position at what is now the Department of War. And 8:228 , 22 secondsbasically everyone on that commission was either you know a major executive at one of these big tech companies that is behind the data center 8:308 , 30 secondspush or figures that had previously worked for the military to establish basically the the US roadmap 8:398 , 39 secondson AI and what needed to be done for quote unquote national security purposes. Um and it's fair to say that 8:478 , 47 secondseven beyond that you can see how these these two groups have become so intertwined by the fact that the 8:548 , 54 secondsintelligence community as well as the military and other major aspects of the federal government contract extensively 9:029 , 2 secondsuh with the same the these same big tech companies and are argu arguably largely dependent on them. while at the same 9:109 , 10 secondstime a lot of these big tech oligarchs you know are major donors to our politicians. Um so on various levels 9:209 , 20 secondsum they have much more influence than arguably any other group right now. And I think as a a very visual example 9:289 , 28 secondsthat people will be familiar with that's a testament to this is after Trump's inauguration or during Trump's inauguration last year, you know, 9:379 , 37 secondsbehind him was a a line of who's who of big tech CEOs like Jeff Bezos and and 9:449 , 44 secondsother figures like him. Uh a testament to their role and importance in getting him elected for a second term. and he 9:509 , 50 secondshas obviously so far been generously repaying their patronage. Um but there's important people to look at too in in 9:599 , 59 secondsthe buildout of this AI den you know the data center deluge as as you called it that aren't such public public figures at this point. 10:1010 , 10 secondsSo there's a lot of AI infrastructure companies that are becoming increasingly important to this but a lot but they 10:1710 , 17 secondslargely stay out of the news. So one good example I think for this would be a company called Crusoe AI which 10:2610 , 26 secondsis for example building the Stargate project for open AI and Larry Ellison's Oracle which was announced in 10:3310 , 33 secondsthe early days of I think one of the first announcements actually of Trump soon after his inauguration this time 10:4010 , 40 secondsaround and they're very they're basically building a lot of the data centers and and working a sort of a a 10:4910 , 49 secondsmiddleman between these big tech you know companies and the actual creation and and infrastructure that they rely 10:5610 , 56 secondson and so those companies are an important part of this you know constellation of actors as well and it's also something that's happening well 11:0411 , 4 secondsbeyond the US so one of the founders of Crusoe AI for example is named Khulli Cavness and he accompanied Peter Teal 11:1311 , 13 secondson Peter the co-founder of Palunteer on his recent trip to Argentina to meet with Javier Malay. Uh later they also 11:2211 , 22 secondsmet with Chilean politicians apparently including the president of Chile though it wasn't publicly announced and also the president of 11:3011 , 30 secondsParaguay. Um and you know not long after that you know at least in the case of Malay there have been these proposals 11:3811 , 38 secondsof having you know allowing companies with no human employees that are run by AI to operate in the country. an announcement of Stargate Argentina on 11:4711 , 47 secondsbehalf of OpenAI run by Sam Elman who's closely affiliated with Peter Teal. Uh so these people are looking to build data centers really all over the world. 11:5611 , 56 secondsUm and you know why are they doing it? 12:0212 , 2 secondsWhy data centers? Um it it's essential to basically their various plans from AI which run which include not just you 12:1112 , 11 secondsknow their their plans for you know AI related businesses but also a lot of these people subscribe to specific 12:1812 , 18 secondsideologies that see that extreme investments in AI and AI compute capability are necessary in order to 12:2512 , 25 secondsfurther the development of what they call artificial general intelligence or an AI super intelligence and some of them 12:3412 , 34 secondshold an almost religious fervor, you could say, um from having for having that come to fruition and are 12:4312 , 43 secondsopenly transhumanist and think that the nature the the end goal of humanity is to have humanity merge with AI in some capacity. So they have not just the 12:5212 , 52 secondseconomic incentive, they also have this I would call it quasi religious incentive as well. 13:0213 , 2 secondsum which may help propel this along even when the economics of it don't necessarily make sense and at the end 13:0913 , 9 secondsof the day I think it's a testament to how we're sort of living in an era of this is the importance to them of computing power over people and so you 13:1913 , 19 secondsknow people that are negatively affected by them apparently there you know their concerns don't matter and there's a coordinated effort to sort of 13:2713 , 27 secondspaint any push back as being propelled by China for example, um and and various different narratives are being 13:3513 , 35 secondsfielded right now to try and manage local anger at an increasing cost of living crisis, many of which have 13:4213 , 42 secondsbeen linked to data centers particularly their power usage and their water usage. And some of these teal 13:4913 , 49 secondsor teal linked outlets like pirate wires for example have tried to push against those claims but using the data on 13:5813 , 58 secondsthe books about water usage and and some other people but in in in some other claims but in states like 14:0614 , 6 secondsCalifornia most data centers aren't required to report how much water they use. So how accurate is the data we have 14:1314 , 13 secondson it anyway? Um and a lot of data centers are moving into areas that have you know water issues or are having 14:2014 , 20 secondsdroughts already. Um and so obviously local concern about that is is is quite reasonable. But obvious you know for the 14:2814 , 28 secondsbig tech oligarchs they're not really interested in in hearing those concerns. 14:3214 , 32 secondsthey have a dedicated mission to improving AI for as I mentioned various various purposes and and moving the 14:4214 , 42 secondsUnited States further into an an AI powered you know economy. Chapter 4: What is the vision of Big Tech? 14:4714 , 47 secondsSo could you explain what the their po people like Wexter and Teal what is their political and social vision? What 14:5514 , 55 secondsare they trying to create and how will these data centers and AI help them achieve this vision? So essentially what 15:0315 , 3 secondsWexner has done in the state of Ohio and what I detail is that he has privatized major aspects of local and state 15:1015 , 10 secondsgovernment through the through first in the example I gave earlier of New Albany and then extending beyond that 15:1815 , 18 secondsto first the Columbus region and then really the the state in entirety focusing mainly on the department of 15:2415 , 24 secondseconomic development. Um, and where that essentially intersects with people like pe like Peter Teal is his 15:3115 , 31 secondsinterest Teal's professed interest in the writings of of people like Curtis Yarvin and the neo-reactionary movement 15:4015 , 40 secondsuh who posit that the the answer to current problems with our government is to privatize the privatize the state 15:4915 , 49 secondsuh entirely and place in charge of it a CEO that would essentially operate as a dictator. 15:5615 , 56 secondsSo both men quite clearly have an interest in privatizing major aspects if not all of the US government. And so 16:0616 , 6 secondsum you know ultimately from that what does that mean? And and up until you know this point the way to achieve that 16:1316 , 13 secondsin in a in a practical sense has been to expand and grow the power of public private partnerships where almost 16:2116 , 21 secondsalways the public sector is subservient to its private sector partner. Um and it's used to enrich the private sector 16:2916 , 29 secondsuh partner and the public sector ostensibly working as a watchdog here on private sector power does not end up 16:3616 , 36 secondsfunctioning that way. Um and so ultimately this is what we're seeing I think especially with the ascendance 16:4416 , 44 secondsof oligarchs like Teal and people close to him to the halls of political power for example the best example obviously being current 16:5316 , 53 secondsvice president JD Vance is to further this so we go beyond the public private partnership model that's predominated you know for several 17:0317 , 3 secondsdecades now and move into this more extreme privatization which may happen gradually or or suddenly depending on 17:1217 , 12 secondshow they think it could best be implemented to suit their interests. 17:1717 , 17 secondsOne of the points you make in the article is that they seize I think was it they took control of the liquor tax in Ohio, but one of the points you make Chapter 5: Privatizing state funds 17:2517 , 25 secondsis that once this public money pours into their hands, there's no accountability. Nobody knows where it goes. 17:3417 , 34 secondsYeah. So what I was talking about in that specific example is this organization that was created as essentially the the privatized version 17:4317 , 43 secondsof the state economic development authority. Um and it's called Jobs Ohio. 17:4817 , 48 secondsAnd so Jobs Ohio was allowed to purchase rights to the Ohio liquor tax 17:5417 , 54 secondsuh for I think $1.4 billion which it made back extremely quickly. Um and they 18:0218 , 2 secondsbecause they are a private company are not required to show how they use the funds they take in from the liquor tax 18:0918 , 9 secondsum and are essentially referred to as a as a dark money organization. Um they claim of course to be creating lots of 18:1718 , 17 secondsjobs by offering you know taxpayer funded through the liquor tax and other means incentives packages to a lot of 18:2618 , 26 secondsthese large data center [snorts] uh companies and other corporations that are in the same sphere that have 18:3318 , 33 secondsmoved in like Palmer Ly's Anderil which is backed by Peter Teal. Uh but Jobs 18:3918 , 39 secondsOhio has been able to supposedly you know they claim that these incentive packages help attract all of 18:4818 , 48 secondsthese businesses to the state and if they didn't exist those companies would go elsewhere. Uh but studies show that's only true in maybe 25% of cases and it's 18:5718 , 57 secondsunclear how many jobs Ohio has actually created since it since it was you know 19:0319 , 3 secondscame into existence in in 2011. Um, and if you're looking at data centers, you know, a lot has been said about how many 19:1219 , 12 secondsjobs they're going to create, but most of the jobs they create are temporary. 19:1619 , 16 secondsThey're construction jobs. And so once the data center is built, uh, most of them employ maybe 20 to 30 people per 19:2419 , 24 secondsdata center, which is not very much. And so if you consider the amount of money which is often millions poured into these incentive packages which also 19:3319 , 33 secondsinclude in Ohio sales and property tax exemptions. Um you know is it really worth it for you know 10 to you know 20 19:4119 , 41 secondsto 30 jobs per center when the losses to the Ohio taxpayer number in the millions. 19:4919 , 49 secondsAnd this was money if I remember correctly from your article that that was used to fund education. I mean to fund kind of basic services once they took it that money is gone. 20:0120 , 1 secondYeah. So if you look at Governor Mike DeWine for example he pushed through a recent spending bill that gutted Chapter 6: Mike DeWine’s connections to Leslie Wexner 20:0820 , 8 secondsall of those services and there was efforts at the state level to push through legislation that would curb 20:1520 , 15 secondssome of these tax exemptions for data centers and Mike DeWine vetoed that. Um but you know Mike DeWine and some of 20:2420 , 24 secondsthe people that work under him have been heavily their political careers have been very related to the fortunes of 20:3220 , 32 secondsLeslie Wexner who count among their biggest donors. Um, of course it's fair to say also that Wexner donates to both parties, but the vast majority of his 20:4120 , 41 secondspatronage in the state has gone to Ohio Republicans. [snorts] Uh, Mike DeWine being no exception. And his predecessor, 20:4820 , 48 secondsuh, John Kasich was heavily funded by Wexner as well. um which seems to have resulted in part in the creations of 20:5620 , 56 secondsJobs Ohio which ended up being used to scale the model that Wexner implemented in in Columbus via the 21:0521 , 5 secondsColumbus partnership at the beginning of the article where Chapter 7: What are public-private-partnerships? 21:1221 , 12 secondsyou're writing about how Wexler helped create a network of public private partnerships and of course as you mentioned use 21:2021 , 20 secondsbillions of dollars of a high taxpayer money to fight finance a massive welfare system for corporations. 21:2821 , 28 secondsCan you detail how the public private partnerships are put together, how they work, how 21:3621 , 36 secondsWexner and how Wexner used them for to create this vast data center development. 21:4421 , 44 secondsYeah. So the culmination of that effort is the comp is the company the that we just discussed called Jobs Ohio. Um but 21:5121 , 51 secondsit started off in in the region of Columbus. So as I mentioned earlier Wexner successfully privatized the town of New Albany which which is close 22:0022 minutesto Columbus and sits within the Columbus region. Um, and in the early 2000s, Wexner and Kesler, who created the 22:0822 , 8 secondsNational or sorry, the New Albany Company that took over that that town, uh, created something called the Columbus Partnership, which basically 22:1622 , 16 secondsbecame the deacto economic development authority. And the Columbus Partnership then spawned something that is now called One Columbus. That is the 22:2522 , 25 secondsColumbus region's economic development authority. And it is it is a public private partnership that the the 22:3322 , 33 secondsprivate sector donors to one Columbus include Wexner's companies but also include very large companies that 22:4222 , 42 secondshave a large pres presence in the state like JP Morgan for example and ones that have large data centers in the state and Columbus specific the Columbus 22:5122 , 51 secondsarea specifically like Amazon and so not surprisingly one Columbus is as 22:5822 , 58 secondsthey say is quote unquote aggressively focused on achieving e the economic development goals of its private sector 23:0523 , 5 secondspartners which includes the bu the buildout of data centers and so to facilitate that and subsidize that with taxpayer money that is what you know 23:1423 , 14 secondsthese public private partnerships are essentially doing and as I said earlier there's no proof that these are necessary to bring the vast majority of 23:2323 , 23 secondsthese companies to the region or to the state but it is a way to use taxpayer money to subsidize the the buildout of AI infrastructure on a massive scale. 23:3323 , 33 secondsand they continue to foot the bill in other ways you know via higher power bills for example which in the Columbus region in particular have you know 23:4223 , 42 secondsexploded as the data center boom in the in in the state has continued to grow and as I mentioned earlier you know 23:5123 , 51 secondsthe vast majority of data centers in the state are in that area and so after the success of the Columbus partnership 23:5923 , 59 secondsvarious other replicas you could say sp were spawned in various other parts of the state, Cleveland, Cincinnati and so 24:0624 , 6 secondson. Um until it was basically I think in in about five or six maybe seven chunks and then jobs Ohio's created and then 24:1424 , 14 secondspartners with every single one. So basically, you know, they Wexner and Kesler created the model in Columbus and 24:2324 , 23 secondsthen it's replicated in every other major metropolitan area in Ohio. And then connecting all of them is the 2011 24:3024 , 30 secondscreated jobs Ohio which John Quish as I mentioned earlier the year before Jobs Ohio was created declared 24:3824 , 38 secondsreceiving 35 gifts quote unquote from Wexner but dis declined to disclose what the gifts were and how what their 24:4724 , 47 secondsmonetary value was. And another interesting point there is that the venture capitalist from Sequoia Capital 24:5424 , 54 secondsuh Markqame also donated I I think several million dollars to Kich right before he created jobs Ohio and then 25:0325 , 3 secondsafter creating it Kich putqaame in charge of jobs Ohio. Can you talk about the ties with Israel? Chapter 8: Israeli ties to the tech companies 25:1225 , 12 secondsI know Compass Data Centers you mentioned has Israeli ties and I'm wondering whether the pairing 25:1925 , 19 secondsbetween Wexner and Compass illustrate a network driving the development of 25:2625 , 26 secondsbig tech in the AI boom that has deep Israeli roots. Well, looking at a lot of the the tech companies and data 25:3425 , 34 secondscenter companies that have installed themselves and New Albany in particular, the vast majority of them have significant subsidiaries that operate 25:4325 , 43 secondsin the state of Israel. Um and Wexner of course is intimately related to the state of Israel through his own activities. for example, I think several 25:5125 , 51 secondsdecades ago, uh he was sort of acting as a as a middleman in some business capacities between Israel and China and 26:0026 minutesalso working on establishing Israeli businesses and helping them establish themselves and the occupied Golden 26:0726 , 7 secondsHeights among other things. And that's to say nothing of his links to the Mega Group, for example, which as you noted in your introduction, created Birthright Israel. 26:1726 , 17 secondsum and and also Jeffrey Epstein who at this point is is quite known for his his ties to former Israeli politicians 26:2726 , 27 secondsand the Israeli state. But I think it's it also speaks to sort of a broader issue to have a lot of this 26:3526 , 35 secondsinfrastructure of of technology in the US be in intimately intermingled and connected to 26:4326 , 43 secondsIsrael. And this was actually something that was furthered and and actually developed in conjunction with Netanyahu 26:5026 , 50 secondsand the so-called vulture capitalist and significant donor to neoonservative causes Paul Singer who explicitly 26:5926 , 59 secondscreated a company called Startup Nation Central with the explicit purpose of making it impossible for the US to 27:0727 , 7 secondsever significantly support the BDS movement or the boycott divest sanctions movement. And the goal was to basically 27:1427 , 14 secondsuh market Israeli startups to US big tech firms so that they would acquire a lot of those startups in unprecedented numbers 27:2327 , 23 secondsand also contract with them so that US technological infrastructure on multiple levels would be so intimately 27:3127 , 31 secondsin meshed with Israeli interests that they could never meaningfully boycott Israel no matter what happened essentially. Um, and a lot of these 27:4027 , 40 secondsstartups, of course, if you've ever looked into the Israeli startup scene, um, are intimately related to, um, you 27:4727 , 47 secondsknow, Israeli intelligence and Israeli military , operations. They're staffed by veterans of one or the other. And 27:5527 , 55 secondsat the same time, coincidentally, uh that Startup Nation central was created, uh the Israeli government developed an 28:0128 , 1 secondexplicit policy where these startups would be used to conduct operations that previously had been conducted inhouse 28:0928 , 9 secondsby MSAD and UDU 8200 and other parts of the Israeli intelligence system. So for lack of a better word, uh they have 28:1728 , 17 secondsan explicit policy of using them as front companies for intelligence. And so basically by having all of these big 28:2428 , 24 secondstech companies absorb them, uh the goal is to have a a major economic lever of power over the tech industry in 28:3328 , 33 secondsparticular that would prevent US policy from ever meaningfully challenging Israel even you know at this point in 28:4228 , 42 secondstime when they have you know actively been conducting a genocidal war for years in Palestine. Chapter 9: Anduril and the Thiel network 28:4928 , 49 secondsSo let me ask about Andural. Can you explain what that is and its importance? 28:5428 , 54 secondsYeah, so Anderil is a company that was created by Palmer Lucky and Trey Stevens. Palmer Lucky was a Teal 29:0129 , 1 secondfellow. He created Oculus Rift and later it was sold to Facebook when Peter Teal was on the board of Facebook and 29:0929 , 9 secondssubsequently Ly's subsequent venture Anderell was funded in large part by Teal and then Trey Stevens is a former 29:1729 , 17 secondsuh veteran of the intelligence community that went to work for Palunteer which of course is a Peter Teal created company and then later joined Founders 29:2529 , 25 secondsFund and decided to create Anderrell Wit Lucky at a time when he was also more or less advising the 29:3529 , 35 secondsTrump administration Pentagon its transition team during Trump's first term as president and so they in 29:4329 , 43 secondsparticular specialize in autonomous weaponry mainly drones and so they have moved into the Columbus area as well. 29:5229 , 52 secondsUh thank thank Palmer Lucky credits Jobs Ohio with their decision to establish themselves there for this 30:0130 , 1 secondfactory called Arsenal 1 which is due to be producing an extensive amount of autonomous lethal drones 30:1130 , 11 secondsreally any day now at this point. Um and nearby there's an effort by Howard 30:1930 , 19 secondsLutnik's company Cantor Fitzgerald to find the next Anderil to fill that particular space. So Cantor 30:2630 , 26 secondsFitzgerald of course being Howard Lutnik the current commerce secretary with a lot of ties to Epstein in in 30:3430 , 34 secondsparticular. Um, so it's kind of interesting to see that coalesce and in wet in the region that has essentially become Leslie Wexner's 30:4330 , 43 secondsfifom. And aside from that, it's worth noting that another venture of Palmer Lucky as well as well that's also more or less linked to Peter Teal and other 30:5230 , 52 secondsfigures around in and around Palanteer like Joe Londale is this effort to create a stable coin bank called Arabore. uh that which Lucky nominally 31:0231 , 2 secondscreated but it's going to be run by other people but it's based in going to be based in Columbus and so this is an 31:0931 , 9 secondseffort to increase dollar hedgeimonyy through stable coins dollar stable 31:1631 , 16 secondscoins and I think recently they were fielded as a choice to restructure Venezuela's sovereign debt or 31:2331 , 23 secondsparticularly the debt of their state oil company following the kidnapping of Nicholas Maduro in during a time when Trump at least 31:3231 , 32 secondsclaims that he is quote unquote running the country. So that's worth keeping in mind as is the fact that 31:3931 , 39 secondsArabore was explicitly created to replace Silicon Valley Bank which you may remember collapsing a few years ago. 31:4631 , 46 secondsAnd if you paid attention to reporting about the collapse, the collapse of the bank was largely created by a run on the bank that was orchestrated by none other 31:5431 , 54 secondsthan Peter Teal. How interesting. So just an example of how this this particular network u operates in one 32:0332 , 3 secondssense and also the fact that they have extensively sought to include Ohio in a lot of their plans. Chapter 10: Smart Columbus 32:1132 , 11 secondsJust to close, I wondered if you can describe smart Columbus and how it's kind of functioning as a 32:1932 , 19 secondstest city for other smart cities in the US. 32:2332 , 23 secondsUh it's it's clearly I think you make the point part of a broader nationwide trend. 32:3032 , 30 secondsYes. So Smart Columbus is an initiative that was created by the Columbus Partnership which as I mentioned earlier was created in the 32:3832 , 38 secondsearly 2000s by Wexner and his his henchman. I don't know [laughter] what 32:4432 , 44 secondselse to call him John Kesler. Um and essentially it was created to yes make 32:5032 , 50 secondsColumbus a a test case for smart city technologies and the implementation of 32:5632 , 56 secondsvarious smart city programs. Uh one of which is aimed at eliminating the use of private cars within the city of 33:0533 , 5 secondsColumbus and moving sort of to these fleets of ride sharing vehicles, Ubers essentially and potentially in the future Whimos and things like that. 33:1633 , 16 secondsUm, and oddly enough, this directly intersects with an in an entity that I mentioned earlier, the US National Security Commission on Artificial 33:2533 , 25 secondsIntelligence, which was led by Eric Schmidt. Um and one of the goals of that commission though not in their final 33:3333 , 33 secondsreport but in documents of theirs that were obtained by Freedom Information Request was their 33:4233 , 42 secondsbelief that in order to for the US to compete with China in artificial intelligence which of course to them was 33:4933 , 49 secondsof prime national security importance. Uh it was essential that private car ownership be phased out and 33:5733 , 57 secondsreplaced with these ride sharing fleets of Ubers essentially or eventually autonomous ride sharing 34:0634 , 6 secondsvehicles as as necessary to train and improve AI in order to compete with China. Um 34:1334 , 13 secondsand so you know essentially Smart Columbus was a test case for that or is looking to promote those types of 34:2134 , 21 secondsinitiatives which they've done quite gradually. It obviously hasn't gotten to that point in Columbus, but essentially the goal of this other Columbus 34:2934 , 29 secondsPartnership connected entity is to have those kinds of things happen in Columbus specifically and basically use 34:3734 , 37 secondsit as a as a beta test for these technologies that are designed by you know Silicon Valley or you know in the 34:4434 , 44 secondscase of the US NCI military related figures as well to have that 34:5134 , 51 secondsessentially be beta tested in Columbus without the people of Columbus really having any input into that process at all. Chapter 11: Totalitarian capitalism 34:5934 , 59 secondsWhat they're building is a kind of totalitarian capitalism, isn't it? 35:0535 , 5 secondsUh you could say that in a way. Uh it's interesting to point out that a lot of these oligarchs that swim in these same circles as Peter Teal, take Mark 35:1335 , 13 secondsAndre for example, is the author of a document that he calls the technooptimist manifesto. Um, and one of the main 35:2235 , 22 secondsinfluences he he says for that paper is a quote unquote philosopher by the 35:2935 , 29 secondsname of Nick Land who's quite popular also in the neo-reactionary movement. 35:3435 , 34 secondsAnd Nick Land argues that capitalism is a type of AI and that capitalism is also 35:4035 , 40 secondsGod. Um, and thus AI is God. Um, and Mark Andre kind of reflects those ideas 35:4735 , 47 secondsin his writings. And these ideas are pretty much very popular with the same people who are interested in Curtis 35:5535 , 55 secondsYarvin's ideas of privatizing the state and having it be led by a CEO dictator which as I mentioned earlier is of 36:0336 , 3 secondsinterest to Peter Teal and some of his allies which include Andre. So, uh, 36:1036 , 10 secondsessentially, you know, like I said earlier, I think they're building it out of the sense that they want to, uh, they're essentially creating, I guess, a 36:1736 , 17 secondsa new model of feudalism, but enforced by technology where basically there's a a class, um, you know, an upper class 36:2736 , 27 secondsand then a large underclass , and having that be enforced by by technology. And you know one of the 36:3536 , 35 secondsfavorite historians of these big tech oligarchs that they've done interviews with sitdowns with him like one with 36:4236 , 42 secondsMark Zuckerberg for example is you've all know a Harrari and he has argued that in this era of you know AI 36:5136 , 51 seconds[clears throat] 36:5136 , 51 secondsand and the data center push and all of this that we're living now but he said this several years ago that in contrast to the industrial revolution 36:5936 , 59 secondsof times past where it was the unexploited versus the exploited. Now for you know the vast majority of people 37:0637 , 6 secondsit will be exploited versus expendable and it's better to be exploited than expendable. And so, you know, as as AI 37:1437 , 14 secondsis taking jobs from regular people and all of this, being led by organizations that, you know, it must be a sick joke 37:2237 , 22 secondsto call it jobs Ohio, you know, we are basically living in an era where these people are attempting to 37:3037 , 30 secondsbuild a very antihuman future. Uh and they see capital as the most important thing to you know, support and and 37:3937 , 39 secondsguide and and nurture. uh you know people and humanity in general are secondary to the progression of of AI 37:4737 , 47 secondswhich a lot of these people as I mentioned earlier see as directly connected to capital and for you know is essentially you know deified 37:5637 , 56 secondsuh by these people and so we certainly cannot live in a world like that. Um, 38:0438 , 4 secondsyou know, some of them have written books about how the goal is to basically have like brains and vats and and robots 38:1138 , 11 secondsbasically conduct economic activity and have a perpetual growth economy with no humans involved at all. That our future 38:1838 , 18 secondsis essentially that. Um, so this is obviously a future that people that don't want something insanely dystopian 38:2638 , 26 secondslike that should reject. And the best thing the best way to do that is to not use their products and to 38:3538 , 35 secondsbasically divest yourself as much as possible from from big tech devices and and services and and the products 38:4238 , 42 secondsthey offer. Because for example in the data center push, you know, in in this paradigm where they say anyway that 38:4938 , 49 secondsdata is the new oil, uh data centers are sort of like the the oil pipelines in in previous decades. And if you look at 38:5838 , 58 secondsexamples like the Keystone pipeline and how the government managed that backlash and things like that and furthered their development through things like imminent 39:0639 , 6 secondsdomain, we may see a lot of that happen in the future with data centers, but the best thing we can do is not use their products. It's a little different than 39:1439 , 14 secondsoil where you have to fill up gas in your car to get by. We don't need to use AI chat bots and you know ask them 39:2239 , 22 secondsall these mundane things or use them if we're really against what the data centers are doing. And as this becomes a 39:3039 , 30 secondsprogressively more pertinent issue for people in the United States in particular if you want to stop the 39:3939 , 39 secondsdata center push in and backlash you know they have a lot prepared to prevent any sort of direct action or even 39:4639 , 46 secondsin-person protests. So the best thing we can do is just boycott and divest ourselves from their products as much 39:5439 , 54 secondsas possible because they can't really justify a data center buildout if no one is using the their algorithms and in 40:0240 , 2 secondsand chat bots. So, I mean, we absolutely do have a way to keep this from going as far as they would like it to go 40:1140 , 11 secondsum and to to prevent them from, you know, uh pumping out you know, pumping up everyone's water and 40:2040 , 20 secondsraising electricity prices and and basically and doing a lot of things 40:2740 , 27 secondsthat are going to make regular life people's lives increasingly harder. It's already hard. Um, and we have time 40:3540 , 35 secondsnow to develop something independent of these companies that are basically taking control of our government that 40:4340 , 43 secondshave very nefarious agendas not just for the United States but for the natural world and humanity in general. And I think really the best way forward the nonviolent approach is best and it is to divest and and not use their stuff as much as possible.Chapter 12: Outro Great. Thanks, Whitney. Chapter 7 — Your Car Ownership Days Are Numbered. Here's Why
vb0:00 Europe isn't banning your car. It's 0:02 doing something far more effective. And 0:04 it's making sure you can't realistically 0:06 keep it. And don't worry, they're going 0:08 to try and do the same thing here in the 0:09 US. That may sound dramatic, but stay 0:12 with me for a few minutes because this 0:14 isn't really a story about insurance. It 0:16 isn't a story about electric vehicles. 0:18 It isn't even a story about 0:20 transportation. It's a story about 0:22 control. And if you've been following my 0:24 reporting over the last few years, 0:26 you've probably noticed something. Many 0:28 of the big changes affecting drivers 0:30 don't arrive through a single headline 0:32 or a single law or a single government 0:34 announcement. They arrive through dozens 0:36 of seemingly unrelated decisions that 0:39 all move in the same direction. One new 0:42 regulation, one new technology, one new 0:45 requirement, one new fee, one new data 0:48 collection program, one new safety 0:50 initiative. Individually, each change 0:53 sounds reasonable. collectively, they 0:56 begin to tell a much larger story. And 0:58 that's exactly what's happening right 1:00 now. There's more coming on this, so 1:02 make sure to like and subscribe and 1:04 click the bell for notifications so you 1:05 don't miss anything. Insurance companies 1:07 are saying they're trying to make roads 1:10 safer and your premiums lower. That 1:13 sounds pretty fair, doesn't it? But 1:15 there's a lot more to it. That's the 1:17 accepted narrative, the headline. That's 1:20 what consumers are supposed to believe. 1:22 And on the surface, it sounds 1:23 reasonable. And if you're a safer 1:25 driver, shouldn't you pay less? If 1:27 you're a riskier driver, shouldn't you 1:29 pay more? And most people would agree 1:31 with that. And I would agree with that. 1:33 But there's a question almost nobody's 1:35 asking. When did insurance companies 1:37 stop measuring risk and start managing 1:39 behavior? Because those are two very 1:42 different things. For more than a 1:44 hundred years, insurance companies 1:45 operated in a fairly simple way. They 1:47 looked at your driving history, your 1:49 age, your location, your claims records, 1:51 your vehicle, and a handful of other 1:53 factors. Then they calculated risk and 1:56 set a premium. They weren't interested 1:58 in monitoring your every move. They 1:59 weren't interested in scoring your 2:01 behavior every time you got behind the 2:03 wheel. Their business wasn't built 2:04 around tracking your decisions. Their 2:06 business was built around ensuring risk. 2:09 Today, that relationship is changing, 2:11 and most drivers didn't even realize it 2:13 was happening. The future battle over 2:15 transportation isn't about electric 2:17 vehicles. It's not about autonomous 2:19 vehicles. And it's not even about 2:21 emissions. It's about data. Your data, 2:23 your vehicles data, your driving data, 2:25 and ultimately who controls it. Most 2:28 Americans still think they own their 2:30 vehicles. And in many ways, they do. But 2:32 increasingly, automakers, insurers, 2:34 regulators, and technology companies 2:36 view your vehicle a lot differently. To 2:38 them, your vehicle isn't simply 2:40 transportation. It's a connected 2:42 platform, a rolling computer with data 2:44 generating machines that happen to have 2:47 wheels. And every year, it collects more 2:50 information. Every camera collects 2:52 additional information that you may or 2:53 may not know about. Think about what 2:56 your vehicle already knows. It knows 2:58 where you are. It knows where you've 2:59 been. It knows how fast you're driving. 3:02 It knows how hard you break. It knows 3:03 how aggressively you accelerate. And it 3:05 knows how often you drive. It knows when 3:08 you drive. and it knows how many miles 3:09 you've traveled. And many vehicles know 3:12 whether you're wearing a seatelt. And 3:13 the flock cameras, well, they'll confirm 3:15 or deny that fact. They monitor things 3:18 like eye movement, driver attention, and 3:20 distraction levels, steering inputs, and 3:22 other behavioral patterns. Some monitor 3:24 all passengers in your vehicle in the 3:26 first, second, and even the third row if 3:28 you have one. And new cameras will 3:30 listen to your conversation, decide if 3:32 you're under the influence of anything. 3:34 Maybe you're stressed or even stable 3:37 enough to drive safely. Yes, this is the 3:40 new kill switch technology that I have 3:41 been covering for a long time and it's 3:44 here and it's the law. No worries. 3:47 Insurance companies will have access to 3:48 all that data, too. And every year, the 3:51 amount of information being collected 3:52 continues to grow. And automakers tell 3:54 us this improves your safety. And 3:56 insurance companies tell us this 3:58 improves accuracy. And governments tell 4:00 us it improves outcomes. And they're all 4:03 right. But let's ask a slightly 4:06 different question. Once all that 4:08 information exists, who gets access to 4:10 it? And what happens next? That's where 4:12 things start to get a little bit 4:14 interesting. Most Americans are focused 4:16 on inflation, taxes, fuel prices, 4:18 vehicle affordability, and the rising 4:20 cost of insurance. And I understand 4:22 that. But while consumers are dealing 4:24 with those problems, something bigger is 4:26 quietly happening in the background. 4:28 Across Europe, insurers, regulators, 4:30 automakers, and technology companies are 4:32 increasingly discussing concepts built 4:35 around what some industry insiders are 4:37 calling transparent customer. Remember 4:40 that name, transparent customer, cuz 4:43 what the heck is the transparent 4:45 customer? You're not going to like this 4:48 one. I promise. It's not a phrase most 4:50 Americans have heard. If the term starts 4:53 in Europe, you know it's going to spread 4:55 globally. And frankly, that's part of 4:57 the reason you should pay attention to 4:58 it, because some of the biggest changes 5:00 in public policy begin as industry 5:02 discussions long before they become 5:05 mainstream news. The name sounds 5:07 harmless. That's the plan. It even 5:10 sounds positive. But who doesn't want 5:12 transparency? But transparency sounds 5:15 very different depending upon who is 5:17 expected to be transparent. And you 5:19 already know the answer to that. 5:21 Insurance companies aren't talking about 5:22 becoming transparent. They're talking 5:24 about you becoming transparent. And 5:26 that's a very different conversation. 5:29 The idea behind transparent customer is 5:31 simple. The more information insurers 5:34 have, the more accurately they can 5:35 predict your risk. At least that's the 5:38 theory. And on the surface, it sounds 5:40 logical. And if one driver presents a 5:43 higher risk than another, shouldn't 5:44 insurance pricing reflect that? Yeah. 5:47 But let's follow the logic all the way 5:49 down the road. If driving behavior 5:51 matters, collect driving data. If 5:53 mileage matters, collect mileage data. 5:56 If location matters, collect location 5:58 data. And if vehicle usage matters, 6:00 collect vehicle usage data. If financial 6:03 stability influences risk, collect 6:05 financial information. If lifestyle 6:07 choices influence outcomes, collect that 6:09 lifestyle information. Now you know 6:11 where this is going. Eventually, the 6:13 question stops being how much 6:15 information is enough and becomes, is 6:17 there any information they don't want? 6:20 Because the pursuit of perfect risk 6:22 assessment never ends. There's always 6:24 another metric, another score, a profile 6:26 or a data point. Any way another layer 6:29 of information comes in, they can use 6:31 it. And that's where the story starts to 6:33 become uncomfortable because at some 6:36 point insurance stops being about 6:38 measuring risk and starts becoming about 6:40 managing your behavior. That distinction 6:43 matters a lot. Insurance used to react 6:46 to outcomes. Now, it's increasingly 6:48 attempting to influence decisions before 6:51 outcomes occur. Think about telematics 6:53 programs, usagebased insurance and 6:55 driver monitoring and behavioral 6:57 scoring. And millions of drivers have 6:59 already signed up for all those onboard 7:02 diagnostic tools that go underneath your 7:04 dash. Many of them are voluntary and 7:06 they're supposed to help you save money. 7:08 The pitch is simple. Share your driving 7:10 data. It's that little dongle. You plug 7:13 it in under the dash. It's really easy. 7:15 It's supposed to prove that you're a 7:16 safe driver. You may receive a discount. 7:19 Who doesn't want a discount? Who doesn't 7:22 like to save money? And you can always 7:24 opt out. Sure, if you remember to or 7:27 even know how. But look at what's 7:30 actually happening. Everything is 7:31 getting measured. Your acceleration, 7:33 braking, mileage, usual driving times, 7:36 and habits, they get measured, and your 7:38 behavior gets scored. And suddenly, your 7:41 insurance company isn't simply 7:42 evaluating whether you're risky. It's 7:44 evaluating whether you're compliant. H 7:48 risk and compliance are not the same 7:51 thing. And that's the important 7:53 distinction that doesn't get enough 7:54 attention. And this leads us to 7:56 something else that rarely gets 7:58 discussed. The value of your data 8:00 itself. This is where the story starts 8:02 making a lot more sense. Most drivers 8:05 think they bought a vehicle. 8:06 Increasingly, what they actually bought 8:08 was a vehicle and a data platform. And 8:10 here's the part nobody's talking about. 8:12 Your vehicle may be worth more after you 8:14 buy it than before you buy it. Not 8:17 because the vehicle itself, because of 8:19 the information it generates. Think 8:21 about that for a moment. You make the 8:23 payments, you buy the fuel, you pay for 8:25 the insurance, the maintenance, and the 8:27 repairs, and you assume the risk, okay? 8:30 And then your vehicle spends years 8:32 generating information that has value to 8:34 someone else. That's every trip, every 8:36 route, every destination, every breaking 8:38 event, every acceleration event, every 8:41 service visit, every habit, every 8:43 pattern, everything you do. And data has 8:45 become the product. And you're producing 8:48 it every single day. And most consumers 8:51 never agreed to being data producers. 8:53 Most consumers thought they bought a 8:55 car. Yet, increasingly, the vehicle is 8:57 generating information that has 8:58 significant value throughout the entire 9:00 ecosystem of the companies. Everyone 9:03 wants access to your data. It's more 9:05 valuable than ever in insurance 9:06 companies, technology companies, data 9:09 analytics firms, data brokers, marketing 9:11 firms, they want access to it, too. 9:13 Government agencies as well. Literally 9:16 everybody. And whenever everybody wants 9:19 the same thing, it's usually worth 9:21 asking why. The answer is very simple. 9:24 Data is valuable and your data is being 9:26 sold for big money. And more accurately, 9:30 a company that can predict your 9:31 behavior, the more money it can make. 9:33 And that's true in advertising and 9:35 technology and finance and definitely 9:37 true in insurance. Which brings us to 9:40 another question. If your data is that 9:43 valuable enough for everyone to want it, 9:45 why are consumers the primary 9:47 beneficiaries? Why are you not getting 9:49 paid for your data? Well, as I always 9:51 say, follow the money. Because whenever 9:54 you follow the money, the story usually 9:56 becomes a little bit clearer. And in 9:58 this case, the money is leading us 10:00 somewhere very interesting. And that's 10:03 where the story starts getting a lot 10:05 bigger than insurance. Because once you 10:07 understand the data has become a 10:09 product, a lot of things that didn't 10:11 make sense before suddenly start making 10:13 perfect sense. Why do companies want 10:16 vehicles connected to the internet? Why 10:18 are automakers investing billions of 10:20 dollars in software? Why are insurers 10:22 pushing telematics programs? And why are 10:25 regulators increasingly interested in 10:27 connecting transportation system? Why 10:29 does every conversation seem to lead 10:31 back to data collection? Because 10:34 information has become one of the most 10:35 valuable commodities in the modern 10:37 economy and the transportation industry 10:39 is sitting on a gold mine of it. And 10:41 that's why I always tell people to 10:43 follow the money. Not because it's 10:45 dramatic, but because it actually works. 10:47 Whenever government agencies, insurance 10:49 companies, and automakers, and 10:51 technology firms, and software 10:52 providers, and analytics companies, 10:53 telematics companies, and consultants 10:55 all start moving in the same direction. 10:58 I want to know who benefits. Who's 11:00 making the big dollars? Well, insurance 11:02 companies benefit from more precise 11:04 pricing and technology companies benefit 11:06 from more data and automakers benefit 11:08 from connecting services and 11:10 subscription fees. We've seen that 11:12 before and we've covered that before 11:13 because this is a huge profit center. 11:16 Cloud providers, data centers that you 11:18 see being built up everywhere and the 11:19 analytics firms benefit from storing 11:21 information. Consultants benefit from 11:23 helping companies navigate increasingly 11:26 complex compliance systems and 11:27 government agencies. They benefit from 11:29 better visibility and reporting so they 11:31 know more about you. Everyone involved 11:34 can point to a legitimate reason for 11:36 participating. And that's what makes 11:38 this so interesting. Nobody has to be 11:40 acting with bad intentions. Nobody has 11:43 to be plotting a secret room. Every 11:45 participant can honestly believe they're 11:47 solving a problem. Hm. Insurance 11:50 companies want better risk assessment 11:52 and governments want safer roads. Who 11:53 doesn't want safer roads? Automakers 11:56 want new revenue streams and technology 11:58 companies want innovation which also 12:00 leads to money. Consumers want 12:02 discounts. Each objective sounds 12:04 reasonable. But when all those 12:06 objectives start moving in the same 12:07 direction, consumers should be paying 12:09 attention because the cumulative effect 12:11 may look very different from the 12:13 original intention. And that's exactly 12:15 why I keep coming back to the one word, 12:17 control, not ownership, control. 12:21 Ownership and control are not the same 12:23 thing. You can technically own something 12:25 while somebody else increasingly 12:27 controls how it's used. You can 12:28 technically own something while somebody 12:30 else determines the rules governing 12:32 access, pricing, monitoring, and 12:34 compliance. And that's where the story 12:36 becomes much more important than 12:38 insurance premiums. Remember, many 12:40 people were told this wasn't happening 12:41 in the so-called kill switch debate. 12:43 There's no such thing, right? That's 12:46 false. I've been reporting on section 12:48 24220 of the 2021 infrastructure act 12:51 that was signed by President Biden for 12:53 years and I have been reporting on this 12:55 and no one believed it and everyone poo 12:57 pooed it. Even though some congressmen 12:59 have discussed it on Capitol Hill, still 13:02 it went through as a law. Still, it's 13:04 being funded. So, this is 100% true. 13:07 100% funded and 100% the new law. If you 13:12 followed my reporting, you know exactly 13:13 what I'm talking about. For years, 13:15 concerns about vehicle intervention 13:17 technology were dismissed. People were 13:19 told they misunderstood the legislation. 13:21 People were told they were overreacting 13:23 and people were told, "Nobody's trying 13:25 to interfere with your vehicle 13:26 operation." Then people started reading 13:28 the actual language. And suddenly the 13:30 conversation changed. Federal regulators 13:33 were directed to pursue advanced 13:34 impaired driving prevention technology. 13:36 And supporters argued the goal was 13:38 simple. Stop drunk driving and save 13:40 lives. And most Americans support that 13:42 goal. I support that goal. Nobody wants 13:45 impaired drivers on the road. But let's 13:47 focus on something far more important 13:49 than just the basic intent of the law. A 13:52 vehicle that can monitor behavior is 13:53 capable of collecting data and can build 13:56 profiles. And a vehicle that can 13:57 communicate with onboard systems is 13:59 capable of intervention. Today the 14:02 justification is impaired driving. 14:04 Tomorrow it could be something else. And 14:06 I'm not saying that that's the plan. I'm 14:08 saying that's the capability. And those 14:10 are two very different things. 14:12 Technology doesn't care why it was 14:14 created. Technology only cares about 14:16 what it's capable of doing. History 14:18 teaches us that capability tends to 14:21 expand, not shrink. Think about how many 14:24 technologies started with one purpose 14:25 and ended up serving 10 others. This is 14:28 not a conspiracy theory. The same thing 14:31 happens in government, business, 14:32 technology. Once a capability exists, 14:35 somebody eventually finds another use 14:36 for it. That's human nature. And that's 14:39 why consumers should always evaluate 14:41 technology based on what it can do, not 14:43 simply what it currently is being used 14:45 for. Because the future is rarely 14:47 limited by today's intentions. Who is 14:50 most likely to feel the impact of all of 14:51 this? Owners of older cars. The working 14:54 American driving a paidoff truck. the 14:56 family hanging on to an older SUV 14:58 because replacing it would cost a 15:00 fortune, the enthusiast maintaining a 15:02 classic collector car, which I'm a part 15:03 of, and the person who simply wants to 15:05 keep driving the vehicle they already 15:07 own, which is many of us. These people 15:10 rarely appear in policy discussions and 15:12 they rarely are considered in most of 15:14 these decisions, but they're often the 15:17 first to feel the consequences. And many 15:19 people assume that if governments and 15:21 regulations and industries want to 15:23 eliminate older vehicles, they would 15:25 simply ban them. I don't think that's 15:27 how it happens. The push would be huge, 15:30 especially with car collectors. In fact, 15:33 I think that's the least likely 15:35 approach. Bans create resistance and 15:38 economic pressures create compliance. 15:40 And you don't need to outlaw an older 15:42 vehicle, confiscate it, or make 15:44 ownership illegal. You simply make 15:46 ownership progressively more difficult. 15:48 Insurance becomes harder to find and 15:50 more expensive. Service parts become 15:53 harder to source and repair costs 15:55 increase. I've covered that recently on 15:57 another video. Compliance with 15:59 inspections and registration 16:00 requirements become more complicated. 16:03 more emission regulations are added and 16:05 the vehicle remains legal and you can 16:07 still technically own it. You just can't 16:09 use it in the way you once could. But 16:12 owning it becomes next to impossible. 16:14 And that's a very different form of 16:17 control. And in many ways, it's far more 16:19 effective than a ban because people 16:21 eventually surrender choices that become 16:23 too expensive to maintain. Not because 16:25 they wanted to, but because the 16:27 economics stopped making sense. Look at 16:29 what's already happening in parts of 16:31 Europe. They have low emissions zones. 16:33 Then they added congestion pricing. And 16:35 cities have vehicle access restrictions 16:37 where you can't drive a car or it has to 16:39 be electric. There are new insurance 16:41 incentives to get you out of your old 16:43 car. And the government piles on 16:45 compliance requirements because they 16:47 want to force you to make change. And 16:50 individually, each policy has a 16:52 justification. Collectively, they create 16:54 pressure. Pressure changes behavior. And 16:56 behavior is what the entire conversation 16:58 is really all about. This makes you want 17:01 to change to comply. Which brings us 17:04 back to the transparent customer. 17:06 Because once you start looking at 17:07 transportation through that lens, the 17:09 pieces begin fitting together. The 17:12 insurance companies want connected 17:13 vehicles that have driver monitoring so 17:16 they can bill you by usagebased 17:18 insurance. And this forces digital 17:20 identity systems that are based on 17:22 behavioral scoring. Then the companies 17:25 can take that information and monetize 17:27 your vehicle data. It's another source 17:29 of income for them. And all of that 17:31 advanced intervention technologies or 17:33 kill switches are all built around the 17:36 same fundamental concept. Insurance 17:38 companies want and need more 17:40 information, more visibility, more 17:42 insight to you, your lifestyle, and 17:45 every bit of information because this 17:46 gives them more predictability. And 17:49 ultimately, this gives them more 17:51 influence on how you live your life. And 17:54 this is the part where I usually put on 17:56 my tinfoil hat. Not because I'm claiming 17:58 some grand conspiracy. Quite the 18:00 opposite. Because I think the reality is 18:03 actually more interesting. Maybe I'm 18:05 completely wrong. Maybe connected 18:07 vehicles collecting more data, insurance 18:09 companies wanting more information, and 18:11 governments building more digital 18:12 systems and automakers creating more 18:14 connected platforms and technology 18:16 companies expanding behavioral analytics 18:19 are completely unrelated developments. 18:21 Just collecting innocent information 18:23 about you. Maybe. But if they're not, 18:27 what exactly are we building? That's the 18:30 question I keep coming back to. Nobody 18:32 involved has to be malicious and nobody 18:34 involved has to be lying or have bad 18:37 intentions. Every participant can point 18:39 to a reasonable objective. That concern 18:42 isn't the individual objectives. That 18:44 concern is the direction because every 18:47 road seems to lead to the same 18:49 destination. What we are seeing is more 18:51 monitoring, more connectivity, more data 18:54 collection, which leads to more 18:55 behavioral analysis. That means 18:57 insurance companies have more 18:59 intervention, less animity, and less 19:01 privacy for you and potentially less 19:05 control for drivers. I do not think it's 19:07 a prediction. It's an observation that 19:09 leads to you giving up your freedom. 19:12 Let's face it, the infrastructure 19:13 already exists and so does the 19:15 technology. They've already laid out the 19:17 incentives and created the business 19:19 model. The question is no longer whether 19:21 these systems can be built. They're 19:23 already being built. The real question 19:25 is where the boundaries should be. How 19:27 much information is too much? Who owns 19:29 the data? Who profits from it? And who 19:32 has access to it? How long is it stored? 19:34 And where is it stored? And how is it 19:35 protected? And perhaps most importantly, 19:38 who decides? Because ultimately, what 19:41 every debate about technology becomes is 19:43 this. Who decides what information gets 19:45 collected, how it's used, and how it's 19:47 shared, and how it affects your pricing? 19:50 Does all this information affect 19:51 mobility? These are questions that 19:53 should matter to you. They matter 19:56 because transportation has always 19:57 represented something larger than simply 19:59 getting from one place to another. For 20:01 generations, the automobile represents 20:03 freedom, opportunity, independence, and 20:06 choice. The ability to go where you 20:08 want, when you want, without asking 20:10 permission. That's happening in Europe 20:12 right now. you need permission to leave 20:14 your city. Here in America, most 20:16 Americans still view driving through 20:18 that lens. We want the freedom. They 20:20 want their privacy. They want to be able 20:22 to go where they want when they want. 20:23 And the question is whether the 20:25 institutions sharing the future of 20:27 transportation still do. Because the 20:29 future battle over transportation isn't 20:31 about electric vehicles. It's not about 20:33 autonomous vehicles. And it's not even 20:35 about emissions. It's about data. Your 20:38 data. And the side that controls the 20:41 data increasingly controls your 20:42 experience. Which brings us to the most 20:45 important question of all. Who actually 20:47 controls the vehicle? The person making 20:49 the payments, the person holding the 20:50 title, the person paying the insurance 20:52 premium, or the growing network of 20:54 insurers, software providers, 20:56 regulators, technology platforms, and 20:58 data companies that increasingly 20:59 influence how the vehicle operates, how 21:02 it's monitored, and how it's scored, how 21:04 it's insured, and ultimately how it's 21:06 used. I'm sure you can put this all 21:08 together very quickly and know this does 21:10 not sound like a good plan. Will you be 21:13 able to drive when you want to go 21:14 somewhere or will a kill switch deny you 21:17 that freedom? That's not just an 21:19 insurance question. That's an ownership 21:21 question. It's about privacy and a 21:23 serious freedom question. It's a 21:25 question every driver should be asking 21:26 before somebody else answers it for 21:28 them. Keep your ears open for the term 21:31 transparent customer because this is a 21:34 sign that you don't want to read. Let me 21:36 know what you think in the comments 21:38 below. Wall Street Pulling HUGE Climate Scam On Latin America! ...w/ Whitney Webb
99,119 views May 11, 2024 #TheJimmyDoreShow Agents of Wall Street, the defense industry, Silicon Valley and other powerful interests are working under the radar to persuade municipalities across Latin America to essentially sell off control of vast swaths of public lands for use as carbon credits. The claim is that the land will be protected while also generating income for these communities. Except that, not surprisingly, the powerful interests driving these efforts have far more nefarious reasons for wanting to control Latin American rainforests.
Author and investigative journalist Whitney Webb explains to Jimmy the interconnectedness of this carbon offsets power grab with vaccine passports, digital currency, and mass surveillance.
George Soros BRAGS About Brainwashing Ukrainians Into War!
Nov 5, 2025 Jimmy Dore — George Soros recently admitted to founding and funding organizations in Ukraine since the late 1980s that helped shape the country’s post-Soviet leadership, evidence that the billionaire financier exerted influence over Ukrainian politics. Specifically, Soros and Canadian politician Chrystia Freeland discuss the long-term impact of Soros’ Open Society Foundation in Ukraine, which could easily be interpreted as “brainwashing” Ukrainians against Russia.
Jimmy further ties Freeland to Nazi collaborators through her grandfather and accuses the current Ukrainian government of being linked to neo-Nazi movements such as those inspired by Stepan Bandera. The two conclude the segment by framing Western support for Ukraine as support for far-right nationalism and Western manipulation rather than democracy.
DC National Guard Shooter A False Flag Operation?!?
84,165 views Dec 2, 2025 — The Jimmy Dore Show A CIA-trained Afghan operative—reportedly recruited during the Afghanistan War as a child into a U.S.-backed death squad—who immigrated to the US in 2021 was likely “activated” to carry out the Washington, D.C., National Guard shooting, likely as a manufactured crisis timed to justify nationwide military deployments.
Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger argue that early media narratives blaming “radical Islam” collapsed once evidence surfaced that the shooter, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, had long-standing ties to U.S. intelligence, prompting accusations of a staged false flag.
The segment links this incident to a larger pattern of covert operations, predictive online search spikes, and past cases of CIA-connected actors surfacing in domestic events. Ultimately, they portray the shooting as part of a technocratic surveillance expansion, bipartisan corruption, and a manipulated political theater designed to keep Americans afraid and compliant.
BlackRock's $10 Trillion Empire: The Company That Owns Everything
40,852 views Nov 27, 2025 BlackRock is not just an investment firm. It is the most powerful financial structure ever created — a system that quietly controls trillions of dollars, shapes global markets, influences governments, and directs the future of entire industries. Most people have no idea how deep its influence goes, or how much of the modern economy is touched by a single company operating almost entirely in the shadows.
This video breaks down how BlackRock became the hidden empire behind the global financial system — and how it gained the kind of power that even nations struggle to match. With more than $10 trillion under management, BlackRock holds ownership stakes in companies like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Tesla, Exxon, JPMorgan, Pfizer, Coca-Cola, and thousands more. When people think they own their stocks through retirement accounts, index funds, or ETFs, the truth is far more complex: BlackRock votes on their behalf. BlackRock controls the shares. BlackRock decides the direction.
Through passive investing, ETF flows, and voting power concentrated inside a few giant funds, BlackRock has positioned itself as the ultimate corporate decision-maker. They influence CEO appointments, executive pay, environmental policies, mergers, and long-term strategy across a huge portion of the global economy. When you look under the surface, the “free market” doesn’t look so free anymore.
But that is only one layer of the story.
Behind the scenes, BlackRock operates Aladdin, a risk-management AI network that watches over more than $20 trillion in global assets — double what BlackRock itself owns. Governments, banks, hedge funds, insurers, and major corporations depend on Aladdin for financial modeling and decision-making. No other private company in history has ever had this much visibility into the world’s financial flows.
Then there is the political influence. BlackRock executives regularly move in and out of government positions, shaping regulations they later benefit from. During crises, central banks and governments turn to BlackRock to manage emergency programs, debt purchases, and bailout operations. When volatility strikes, BlackRock is often the first call — giving it the kind of access and influence most companies could only dream of.
Through ETFs, passive-investing dominance, Aladdin’s surveillance network, shareholder voting control, and deep political connections, BlackRock has quietly built a structure more powerful than traditional banks, more influential than many governments, and more deeply embedded in the world economy than any corporation in history.
This video dives into the mechanisms behind this power: – How BlackRock became the world’s largest asset manager – Why passive investing concentrates market control – How shareholder voting gives BlackRock corporate authority – The role of Aladdin and its global risk network – The political and regulatory relationships shaping the system – And why this new form of financial power is rewriting capitalism itself
Whether you’re an investor, a creator, a student of economics, or someone simply trying to understand the world, this is a story you need to know: The rise of a financial empire bigger than countries, hidden in plain sight.
Mamdani Secretly Funded By Globalist Billionaires!
Well, it’s over — after much controversy and ugliness through a lengthy campaign, New York City has elected Zohran Mamdani as the next mayor. Contrary to the consensus on the left, however, Jimmy and Due Dissidence’s Russell Dobular do not believe Mamdani’s victory represents a radical political shift but rather a continuation of establishment politics backed by elite interests, including figures like Alex Soros.
Russell suggests that while Mamdani may implement limited reforms such as a rent freeze, his administration is unlikely to deliver transformative change, comparing his prospects to past Democratic mayors like Bill de Blasio. The discussion also highlights how demographic shifts and frustration with entrenched political power shaped the election, signaling the end of an era for New York’s old political establishment.
CNBC Warns About Upcoming CIVIL WAR Against Oligarchs!
Jimmy Dore and Reportage author James Corbett discuss a recent conversation on CNBC where the panel discuss the problem of wealth inequality in the United States, and suggest that a civil war between the haves and the have nots may be looming.
Corbett argues that the ruling oligarchs deliberately promote cultural and partisan conflicts to prevent a unified populist movement against systemic corruption and corporate dominance. Both conclude that true change requires unity across political lines and awareness of how mainstream media maintains public division to protect elite interests.

War Profit Pattern: How 5 Families Made Billions from Every American War
124,667 views Nov 8, 2025 Five American wars. Five families got rich from every single one. Not speculation. Government contracts. Public record. This video reveals the pattern that's made the same dynasties billions while millions died. There's a business model in American history more profitable than oil, more consistent than banking, more protected than any monopoly. It's made the same families wealthy for six generations and it's built on a simple premise: profit from war. Every war. Any war. THE FIVE DYNASTIES:
DuPont - Explosives and chemicals, Revolutionary War through Iraq (220 years) Rockefeller - Oil and fuel, Civil War through Afghanistan (160 years) Morgan - War financing, Spanish-American War through WWII (50 years of war loans) Lockheed Martin predecessors - Aviation and weapons, WWI through today (100+ years) Halliburton - Military logistics, WWII through War on Terror (80 years)
Total documented profit from war contracts: over $485 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars. WHY WATCH THIS VIDEO: This video documents the exact seven-step pattern these companies use to profit from every conflict: ? How DuPont supplied gunpowder to both sides of conflicts while claiming patriotism ? Why Rockefeller's Standard Oil sold fuel to Nazi Germany even during WWII ? How J.P. Morgan's war loans made American neutrality impossible in WWI ? The Lockheed cost-plus contracts that turned $2.1B projects into $5.3B profits ? How Halliburton got $40 billion in no-bid Iraq contracts while Dick Cheney was VP ? The revolving door between Pentagon and defense contractors ? Why the F-35 fighter jet is 700% over budget and still funded ? The documented billions in fraud, overcharges, and waste that went unpunished THE SEVEN-STEP WAR PROFIT PATTERN: Step 1: Position Before the War Build capacity during peacetime. When war starts, you're the only supplier ready. Competitors can't catch up. Step 2: Get the First Contract "National security emergency" means no-bid contracts. Once you're the proven supplier, next contracts are automatic. Step 3: Cost-Plus Pricing Government pays all costs plus guaranteed profit percentage. You literally cannot lose money. Every cost overrun increases profit. Step 4: Overrun the Budget Underbid to win contract, then revise costs upward. Government can't cancel—too much already invested. F-35: 700% over budget. Zumwalt destroyer: 300% over. Every major weapons system follows this pattern. Step 5: Hire the Regulators Retired generals become defense contractor executives. The people who approved your contracts give you jobs. Dick Cheney: Defense Secretary → Halliburton CEO → VP during Iraq War. Step 6: Lobby for More War Defense contractors fund think tanks that advocate military intervention. $100M+ annual lobbying. When Iraq was debated, contractor-funded groups produced "intelligence" supporting invasion. Step 7: Diversify the Profit War profits build peacetime empires. DuPont: explosives → chemicals. Rockefeller: oil → banking. Morgan: war loans → industrial financing. Wealth becomes dynastic. THE DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE: DuPont Civil War: 4 million pounds of gunpowder, $10M in contracts ($300M today). Used profits to build chemical empire. Standard Oil WWI: Sold to both sides through subsidiaries. Rockefeller became world's first billionaire from war fuel profits. Morgan WWI Loans: $2 billion to Allies ($50B today). When Germany threatened to win, US entered war to protect Morgan's loans. Senator George Norris: "We are going into war upon the command of gold." Lockheed C-5 Galaxy: Contracted at $2.1B, delivered at $5.3B (150% overrun). Cost-plus contract meant Lockheed profited from the overrun. Halliburton Iraq: $40 billion in contracts (2003-2008). Pentagon Inspector General found billions in waste: meals never served, fuel never delivered, construction never completed. Company paid fines, kept contracts, continued profiting. Current State (2023): US military budget: $816 billion. Top 5 contractors received $200 billion (25% of total budget). Lockheed Martin alone: $65 billion, 90% from government. THE OPPORTUNITY COST: $485 billion in war profits could have funded:
Free college for every American for 20 years High-speed rail connecting all major cities Universal healthcare for a decade Complete infrastructure rebuild Cancer research for a century

Opium Fortunes: How America’s Elite Families Got Rich Selling Drugs to China
418,209 views Oct 29, 2025 Roosevelt, Astor, Forbes, Yale, Harvard: They All Got Rich Selling Opium to China
Roosevelt. Astor. Forbes. Yale. Harvard. You know these names. What you don't know? They all got rich the exact same way. Flooding China with opium. Thousands of tons. Millions addicted. Four hundred percent profit. And then they spent 200 years making sure you'd never find out. Until now.
This video documents the historical evidence proving that America's most powerful families made their fortunes through industrial-scale opium smuggling to China in the 1800s. The shipping records exist. The letters survive. The account books are in archives. This isn't conspiracy theory. This is documented history that has been systematically omitted from mainstream education.

THE DELANO FAMILY - DOCUMENTED FACTS:
*Warren Delano II (FDR's Grandfather):*
"Warren Delano II was born in 1809 in Massachusetts. At 19 years old, he went to China to work for a trading company. By age 24, he was a partner in Russell and Company—the largest American opium trading firm in China."
*Russell and Company Operations:* "Russell and Company wasn't just participating in opium trade. They dominated American involvement. They had offices in Canton (Guangzhou). They had clipper ships. They had connections with British opium growers in India. And they made millions."
*Warren Delano's Career Timeline:* "Warren Delano ran the operation from 1833 to 1846. Thirteen years of opium smuggling. He returned to America a very wealthy man."
*Evidence of Wealth:* "How wealthy? Rich enough to build a 40-room mansion in Newburgh, New York. Rich enough to send his children to the best schools. Rich enough that when he lost money in the Panic of 1857, he could go back to China, make another fortune in opium, and return even wealthier."
*Connection to FDR:* "His daughter, Sara Delano, married James Roosevelt. Their son was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. FDR grew up in wealth. Private tutors. Harvard. Political connections. All funded by opium money."
*The Historical Irony:* "And here's the kicker. In 1935, while FDR was president, he signed the first federal laws strictly controlling drugs—the Marijuana Tax Act precursor and expansion of narcotic controls. The man whose family fortune came from selling drugs to Chinese people spent his presidency criminalizing drugs for Americans."
THE ASTOR FAMILY - DOCUMENTED FACTS:
*John Jacob Astor's Fortune:*
"John Jacob Astor. At one point the richest man in America. His wealth built the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, funded libraries, created a dynasty. Where did the money come from? Furs, right? That's the story. He traded furs. True. But that's not where the real money came from. Opium."
*Documented Wealth:* "By 1840, Astor was worth $20 million. That's $500 million in today's money. Most of it from opium profits. His great-grandson, John Jacob Astor IV, died on the Titanic as one of the richest men in the world. That wealth? Built on opium."
*Legacy:* "The Astor family name is on libraries, museums, university buildings. All of it funded by drug money from China."
*Historical Records:* Astor's shipping manifests and commercial records document Turkish opium purchases and China trade routes. The Macedonian's voyages are documented in maritime records at the Peabody Essex Museum.

THE FORBES FAMILY - DOCUMENTED FACTS:
*Forbes Family Operations:*
"Yes, that Forbes. Malcolm Forbes, the magazine publisher billionaire? His family fortune started in China. The Forbes family of Boston sent ships to China in the early 1800s. Robert Bennet Forbes and his brother John Murray Forbes were major opium traders."
*Russell and Company Connection:* "They worked with Russell and Company—the same firm Warren Delano worked for. Robert Forbes captained clipper ships that carried opium. John Forbes invested the profits into railroads and became one of the wealthiest men in Boston."
*Modern Legacy:* "Their descendants used that wealth to start Forbes Magazine. The family became American aristocracy. And it all started with opium."
*Historical Erasure:* "John Murray Forbes is celebrated in Boston as a great businessman and philanthropist. T

Fasten your damn seatbelt, you're about to get educated!
The not so great reset Portland racism riots global coup, obscures: Capitalism (Fed City of London) runs on interest, which is a pyramid scheme outlawed by the U.S. Constitution that mandated a publically owned central bank that does not charge interest; one can say that when oligarchs City of London dynastic bankers & Rockefeller & Harriman founded the Fed & instituted a privately owned central bank running on interest, that's when they start destroying the Americas & thanks to the Bush dynasty, started the bananna republic fake democracies & fake elections & refugee crises. Look no further than your mirror. BTW, the private owners of the Fed City of London founding documents grant them the interest on the national debt each year, as a personal dividend on the privately held stock of the Federal Reserve (which they own & can not be sold but only inherited) across the Fed & other five original Rothschild banks. Since covid, that's several trillion dollars a year in personal dividends for them taken out of your taxes paying the national debt they created while the world is torn & crying out for salvation that will never arrive. Putin, installed by Reagan/Bush Admin, threw out Rothschild banks now Putin's to blame, not to mention Trump (to preserve freedom of religion & the Constitution), for everything you are too cowardly to correct, such as your ignorance & failure to fight for Constitution freedom & fair elections. Welcome to hell. Welcome to Portland OR, Antifa, OR, 'Where the inbred rule ...alongside Warburg (whose house in on the hill & Rothschild, who's makes money when blood runs in the streets.'

/>Russia sailed its ships to New York to help fight the American Revolution of 1776; sailed its fleet to San Francisco to help Lincoln in the Civil War in 1865; won World War I and World War II with very high casualties; was double-crossed by triple-agent Allen Dulles who was a director of Schroder Bank ...as Dulles before the end of WWII hired Hitler's Gehlen Organization Eastern Front intelligence outfit that became a part of the newly formed CIA with the mission of destroying Russia ... betraying our Ally. Schroder Bank subsidiary Bechtel groomed all the San Francisco politicians to become State politicians then Federal politicians.
Russia has saved our ass many times throughout history the sad truth is the Nazi party was funded out of NY City, as were the Communists that usurpted the Russian Revolution -- when the people, moms, dads, soldiers could not afford food & were starving to death the people spontaneously rose up (as the U.S. Declaration of Independence & Bill of rights instructs us to do) and overthrew their corrupt government (like our corrupt Government today) and reclaimed the riches of the billionaire class to feed the hungry ...like we should be doing in America, today. The America Revolution was fought against the City of London Rothschild banking syndicate and we threw them out in 1776 ...they came back in 1913, and it's time to throw them out, again and their Federal Reserve System that is killing us; and dismantle the IMF; it's time for the City of London to repay us all the interest we've paid since 1913 on the national debt, and cancel the national debt in its entirety, then return ownership of our money to us — then dissolve themselves
